2009 Events and Actions

Action Alert, April 9, 2009:

Please read on for ways YOU can advocate for peace locally!

Tax Day Event in Charleston
As taxes come due on April 15th, West Virginians should be aware of how every income tax dollar was spent in 2008: 37.3 cents went towards military-related spending, while environment, energy and international relations split a comparatively meager 4 cents, according to the National Priorities Project (NPP).

You can help raise awareness of our nation's budget "priorities" by coming to our Tax Day event in Charleston at the downtown Post Office (1002 Lee St.) on Wednesday, April 15th.  We need you to hold "Costs of War" banners, distribute budget leaflets, and speak up with us: "It's About Dollars and Sense!"  We will be there from noon-1pm and also from 4pm--6pm.  Email lidaprince@gmail.com if you'd like to participate.

As WV Patriots for Peace, we believe in social justice and human dignity. While President Obama's proposed budget would allocate more money for human needs funding, we continue to protest the disproportionate amount of money that our country has invested in war-making.

"Knit-Ins" for Peace

Please join one (or both!) of our "Knit-Ins" where we will knit simple pink and green squares that will be peaced together with CODEPINK's beautiful cozy.  The cozy will cover the White House fence with the message “We will not raise our children to kill another mother’s child" as part of  the 24 hour Mother’s Day vigil for Women who live in War Zones.  No experience necessary!  Bring needles if you got 'em!

Wednesday, April 22nd, 5:30 pm at Capitol Roasters on Summers St.
Saturday, April 25th, 11:00 am at Capitol Roasters on Summers St.

Email lidaprince@gmail.com or amyvangogh@yahoo.com for more info and/or to let us know you'd like to attend!

Good Night, Grovers Corners at the West Virginia International Film Festival

On Thursday, April 30th at 7:00 pm WV Patriots for Peace will be sponsoring a FREE screening of the Contemporary Youth Arts Company production of Good Night, Grovers Corners, a Charleston-set drama that tells the tale of when the horror of war hits close to home.  Come to the Capitol Theatre at 123 Summer St. to support the WV International Film Festival , support WV Patriots for Peace, and support local youth theatre.
